Gouache is an effective and accessible medium for quickly capturing the essence of our subject. In this three day workshop we will study the character of the medium, and explore the potential of gouache for sketching. As well as learning the material side of the medium, we will learn how to sketch effectively. We will make thumbnails, color, and composition studies, and master copies to explore how to get the most out of quick sketches. We will do exercises to help us learn to simplify, develop an eye for the essential, and to see and mix accurate color and value efficiently. This workshop will encompass all subject matter.
“Technique is to me merely a language, and as I see life more and more clearly, growing older, I have but one intention and that is to make my language as clear and simple and sincere as humanly possible.” -Robert Henri
